San Diego, California - February 7, 2007 - Pangea
Foundation today announced that it has selected Rackspace
Managed Hosting, as its primary Web hosting provider.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, Rackspace is a recognized
leader in managed hosting.
As a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), network
uptime and availability are crucial to Pangea Foundation
and the nonprofits that use Pangea Foundation’s
Web applications to measure outcomes and improve service
delivery. Rackspace’s Zero-Downtime Network™ and
Fanatical Support™ play a vital role in making
Pangea Foundation’s real-time Web applications
highly available for nonprofits.
According to Kraig Kuipers, Chief Executive Officer
of Pangea Foundation, “We needed a financially
stable hosting provider with proven expertise and a
strong commitment to supporting our growth. With Rackspace,
not only will we get proven expertise, excellent support,
and a flexible roadmap for future growth, but the nonprofits
we serve can have even more confidence knowing that
their important data will be protected.”
Network uptime is essential to Pangea Foundation’s
continued ability to deliver intuitive and easy-to-use
Web applications. Prior to hosting with Rackspace,
Pangea Foundation had a number of servers in a colocation
environment at the internationally acclaimed San Diego
Supercomputer Center.
“With the colocation environment, we were personally
responsible for the server upkeep and administration,” says
Kuipers. He adds, “We were perfectly capable
of keeping the servers up and running, but doing so
wasn’t a part of our core mission. Our concern
going forward was that it would take too much time
and manpower away from our mission of equipping nonprofits
with capacity building Web applications.” Pangea
Foundation will continue to use the San Diego Supercomputer
Center as its primary backup hosting environment.
After reviewing a half dozen other providers, Pangea
Foundation decided that Rackspace would best meet its
objectives. Now with minimal effort, Pangea Foundation’s
disaster recovery plan can be implemented and nonprofits
can be up and running within a matter of hours, in
the event of a natural disaster. While a disaster recovery
solution is more expensive, not having one in place
can result in drastically higher costs in the event
of a natural disaster.
Kuipers adds, “Nonprofits can now have the peace
of mind knowing that if the unexpected occurred, they
will be able to continue with business as usual when
the emergency is ultimately resolved.”
With multi-regional redundancy, nonprofits can avoid
some of the worries related to natural disasters and
other emergencies and instead focus on their mission
of serving others.
