A Different Kind of Software Company
Imagine an awe-inspiring place filled with awesomeness. That's the place we call Pangea Foundation. A one-of-a-kind software company minus the bureaucracy of the Big Boys, but with all the talent in the universe. What you get when you merge the heart of a nonprofit with the mind of Silicon Valley. A place where convention is challenged above and below the line. We built the greatest software company in all the land, armed only with wit, commitment, and a knack for creating online innovations that empower nonprofits to make a better world. (16 years and still rolling!) Most software companies don't get nonprofits. Most nonprofits don't get software. As a software company and a nonprofit, Pangea Foundation gets both.

Kraig D. Kuipers
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Beneath the polite veneer of the voice and consciousness behind Pangea Foundation's strategic vision beats the pulse-pounding performance of a man whose passion for equipping nonprofits with transformational technologies knows no boundaries. (Okay, so he secretly wanted to be a copy writer.) Kraig's 15 year stint in the business sector led to a deep understanding of what resonates with people. He's a man who still believes in the power of a face-to-face meeting, a hand-written note, and the importance of big ideas. If you’re ever visiting and aren’t sure which one Kraig is, just look for the tallest person in the room. We’ve decided to politely avoid teasing him about how often he bumps his head on things, and instead focus on how he stands out in a crowd and breathes cleaner air than you do.
Kristin M. Kuipers
Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer
Kristin is the embodiment of 74 degrees and sunny—just like her home town of San Diego. She's warm, pleasant, and bright. She makes you feel good. And she's fun to be around. Part of it has to do with her belief that you should really only do what you love. Another part if it has to do with the fact that she has put her heart and soul into Pangea Foundation since she founded the company in 1996. As the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Kristin has done just about everything there is to do around here. Prior to Pangea Foundation, she worked on Wall Street, earned a Master's degree in Public Policy from Georgetown, and studied overseas. Few people make a flip chart presentation as riveting, in large part because Kristin's presentations often feel like a one-person Broadway show.
Mike C. Carnohan
Sr. Vice President, Product Development & Strategy
Some people know a lot about a little. Others know a little about a lot. Mike knows a lot about a lot. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Mike is MIT smart. That's code for the fact that Mike is ridiculously talented. Yes, Mike knows what orthogonal vectors are. And he’s somehow programmed his computer to do things your computer won’t. When he’s not in front of his computer? Mike is a " film producer"*. So pretty much, Mike is about making things happen. In addition to leading strategic initiatives, Mike’s the one we count on to oversee our overall product development efforts. From standalone applications to integrated collaborative platforms to public and private cloud deployments—Mike directs the Pangea Foundation “Situation Room”, helping you take full advantage of our solutions so you can focus on what you do best. And Mike is the type of person that always has ten things going on simultaneously. On your busiest day, Mike will make you feel like a lazy sloth. Yep, Mike did more yesterday than you did all last week! We think he’s figured out some space/time continuum stuff we can’t explain so that he’s actually cramming two weeks into one. Don’t believe us? In the time it took you to read this, Mike just drove across the country. And back. While directing the Situation Room. And producing a cool film. But his films are so cool that you haven’t heard of them yet. By the time you’ve heard of them, it will be so over. He’ll be doing something way cooler by then.
Kelly S. Redmond
Sr. Vice President, Advanced Technologies
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems, Kelly went on to study Quantum Physics and Advanced Calculus for four more years—just for fun. Yeah... we thought the same thing! Other than that though, Kelly's really respected around here. Some of it has to do with the fact that he's a pretty good hockey player, and some of it because he's totally nice—a real family guy. Prior to Pangea Foundation, Kelly developed software for a well-known Fortune 100 company. During his career, he has worked on some of the most sophisticated software applications on the planet, including applications used by the Federal Government, the Department of Defense and NATO. That means dude's got mad skills. (And a pretty high security clearance too.) Throughout his career, Kelly has received numerous commendations for his technological expertise. We all think that's pretty cool. But, Quantum Physics for fun? Dude!
Michael S. Kotman
Vice President, Software Engineering
We first met Michael when he was in junior high. He was smart back then, and could already do complex math and write code better than anyone in the nation. It was something right out of the 80s TV show "Whiz Kids". More than two decades later, after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, earning advanced Microsoft Certifications, and developing software for a highly respected Fortune 400 company, Michael is our in house uber-genius. He's the "go to" guy for Advanced Algorithms that would cause even some of the best minds on the planet to overheat. We have yet to throw anything at Michael that he couldn't make possible. And believe me, we've tried. We think he secretly enjoys proving naysayers wrong when they declare things like "that's not possible" or "that can't be done". Everyone on the team still can't believe that a guy that smart could be so humble. Ultimately though, when it comes to creating software that helps to make a difference in people's lives, it's the people in Michael's life—his wife and daughters—that are his driving factor every day. His two little girls exude a countless number of ideas daily that have taught Michael perhaps his most valuable quality, how to be a good listener.
James N. Nearn
Director, Application Integration & Security
James came to us from Paw Paw, Michigan. This is a mythical place far north of here—where people use normal words. We're from Southern California—where words are invented daily. As an expert in application integration and security, James is about making web applications hum without a hiccup. We’ve yet to find anything he can’t do well… and yes, we’ve tried. After college, James became a Microsoft Certified Professional and a Microsoft Certified Application Developer. Prior to Pangea Foundation, James was a Software Engineer for a Fortune 100 company. Translation: James is sharp as a tack, developing amazing code that continues to challenge what was previously considered possible on the web. When James isn’t writing high-quality code for our clients, he’s investing high-quality time with his brand new baby girl. By now, we’re pretty sure we have James brainwashed that California speech is actually normal. Meanwhile, we’re pretty sure James’s wife has him brainwashed that diaper duty is his true calling in life—but let’s not bring that up, just in case.
Corey Seifert
Director, Software Architecture
Corey has no business working for a software company. She’s far too talented. We should all be sitting in a coffee shop somewhere, sipping a “Venti-non-fat-vanilla soy-double shot-no foam-white-chocolate-peppermint mocha-steamed to 180 degrees-with heavy whip and a dusting of cinnamon-double cupped-with a straw” and talking about how we knew her back when. Seriously, Corey’s received more honors and awards than many people have in their entire careers. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Pepperdine. She’s received special recognition from the Wall Street Journal. She’s even been recognized as one of the coolest people in the company. Corey won't admit it, but that's how everyone knows her. And she's creative, too. Corey’s the one we count on for turning totally awesome concepts into online innovations. And online innovations into extraordinary results. From sophisticated software simulations to product design to picture perfect implementation—Corey delivers the rich background required to deliver excellence at Pangea Foundation.
Mike Denegal
Director, Client Care
Mike loves the San Diego Coaster. He loves it because during his daily commute from Encinitas, California to downtown San Diego, he gets to think. And that's what he's been doing for Pangea Foundation since 2005. He thinks about our clients, about their needs, about their challenges, about the people they serve. His intelligence, breadth of experience, and grace under pressure serve him well in his wide variety of responsibilities at Pangea Foundation. From client support to software troubleshooting to out-of-the-box thinking, Mike is always up to the challenge. Prior to Pangea Foundation, Mike served as a leader in the AmeriCorp Vista program, which means he loves to help people. Mike also loves to visit new places and never passes up a chance to sneak off to another continent. He's lived in Germany, hiked in the Amazon, and rode elephants in Thailand. And he's pretty good at running marathons too. That must be why he likes to eat so much. Mike burns more calories in a day than most people burn in a week. Dude's like a well-oiled machine!
Jenell A. Kuipers
Director, Client Experience
Jenell makes clients feel special. She makes everyone feel special! And since she joined Pangea Foundation in 2007, her kids even think she's cool. She's also very resourceful—kinda' like the TV show MacGyver. Put a roll of duct tape in her hands and you'll be amazed what she can do with it. I guess when you have six kids running around the house you have to be resourceful—and patient! And Jenell is very patient. She loves her work. She loves the people she works with. And she loves our clients. No surprise—they love her, too! Jenell currently has one of the shortest commutes of any of us. She operates out of the Pangea Foundation East Coast customer service center, which is code for the fact that the East Coast customer service center looks a little bit like Jenell's family room.
Ida Hamud
Director, Finance & Administration
We’re not saying that Ida is a hardnosed businesswoman, and we’re definitely not saying she’s a ruthless enforcer for a rogue biker gang, because saying something like that could get our kneecaps broken—and we’ve got great knees. But we are saying she’s one tough cookie! How tough? Remember all the ups and downs we’ve had in the housing market over the past two decades? The ones where a lot of people took several unplanned, unpaid vacations? Ida kept her job. In real estate! For over 20 years! See? See? See? Scared now? So are we. Just don’t make any sudden moves, meet all her demands, and no one gets hurt, okay? When Ida isn’t managing the financial and administrative details at work, she spends her time spoiling and doting on her beautiful grandchildren. But be forewarned: Cross Ida and Terry Tate* will be on you like a buzzard on a gut truck.
