It all began in 1996. America was in the midst of
an all-encompassing dialogue on the question of how
to bridge the “digital divide.” While others
continued to talk, a different kind of technology company
was born—an
inventive nonprofit that would blaze a new trail and
change the world of nonprofits forever. We started off
small, but we had a huge dream: the goal was to invent
a one-of-a-kind technology company—a company
focused on leveraging the power of technology, not to
make a profit, but to serve those who are underserved
by traditional organizations.
It
was daring. Rare. Wonderful.
The name given to the company was Pangea
Foundation.
The word “Pangea” symbolizes
a united world where people and communities are connected.
And that’s what
we set out to do—unite people and communities
through technology.
Our first client was Washington D.C. based Project
Northstar. Project Northstar is a nonprofit organization
whose fundamental mission is to help children who are
homeless or disadvantaged overcome barriers to a quality
education.
More than a decade later, Pangea Foundation continues
its work of providing capacity building technologies
for community organizations across America.
We are a national
leader among technology nonprofits.
We are based in San Diego, California. We have offices
in California and in Michigan. As a provider of Software-as-a-Service for nonprofits,
we offer multi-regional Web hosting redundancy in highly
secure data centers throughout the United States.
We develop custom Web applications that serve
the needs of America’s
leading nonprofit organizations. We do everything the nation’s
leading nonprofits need and want. We just do it differently than traditional software companies.
We have received numerous top awards and honors at
the national level, the state level, and the local
level.
In 2000, President Clinton publicly announced Pangea
Foundation as the first recipient of the U.S. Department
of Commerce’s Technology Opportunities
Program’s (TOP) fiscal year 2000 grants. The grant was part of a nationwide
initiative to bridge the digital divide and bring robust Web applications to
America’s community organizations.
In 2002 Pangea Foundation was honored once again
by the executive branch of government—this
time at the state level—receiving California’s
prestigious Governor’s
Award for Technology and Innovation.
Pangea Foundation
has received numerous local awards as well. But, we
feel particularly honored by the awards we’ve
received from two San Diego-based community organizations:
The San Diego Unified School District and Kids Included
Together. In 2002
San Diego Unified School District awarded Pangea Foundation
its Exemplary Partner Award. The award recognized our
consistent efforts to make educational and out-of-school
time programs accessible to youth with disabilities.
That same year, Kids Included Together awarded Pangea
Foundation its prestigious Leadership Award for our
efforts to make recreational programs equally accessible
to youth both with and without disabilities.
But in the end, it’s not about the honors; it’s
not about the awards—it’s about serving
others by working together with dedicated people and
organizations that share an enduring commitment to
helping people in the most need. That’s what
we’ll continue to do.
And so our story lives on…
